Recipe | Quick and Easy Tuna Wheels

Tuna Wheels on Rita Hello

Whipping something up for dinner isn’t always the easiest. This recipe, however, is a lifesaver.
Not only can you have it for dinner, it is a great snack and you can make it and bake it later. If you have unexpected guests and nothing in your fridge, this is a great baby to have in your freezer. It is definitely one of our easy favourites. So here we go… This makes approximately 12 wheels.

 Ingredients

  •  1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1/2 onion (finely chopped)
  •  2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • pinch of paprika
  • cheddar cheese (see picture for reference)
  • 1 tin of tuna (drained)
  • black sesame seeds

 Method

METHOD:

Mix the thoroughly drained tuna, chopped onion, mayonnaise, and seasoning together. Grate the cheese. If you intend on baking your tuna wheels and not freezing them, continue to preheat your oven to 200C (180C fan-forced, 400F, gas mark 6).

Unroll your puff pastry and spread the tuna mixture over the pastry evenly. Do not be too tempted to mix an extra tin of tuna in, the layer should be fairly thin.

Distribute the grated cheese evenly over the tuna and roll it up. Don’t squeeze it or try to roll it up too tight.

You can add some black sesame seeds if you’d like to.

If you would like to bake the wheels immediately, cut the roll into 2cm wide slices and place on a silicone (or any other) baking sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

If however, you would like to freeze it. Even if it is just one-half of the roll, wrap it back up, place in a freezer bag and freeze. Use the roll within 2-3 months and once it has thawed do not refreeze.

It is really as easy as that and what makes this awesome is you can replace the tuna mixture with anything really.
