Christmas in our family is a big deal and 2015 was extra special. There’s nowhere quite as special to kick of your shoes and just be as your parent’s home. My Mom and Dad recently renovated a house in what is called old Victorian style Kimberley and it was the first time I visited since the moved in. Just feast your eyes on how beautiful the sprung wooden floors look in a white wash. Naturally, we were dreaming about what else still needed to be done, making plans regarding what type of garden would work in Kimberley’s extreme heat and unforgiving sun. Not only was this the first time in their new house, it was also the last time I celebrated Christmas at home before André and I get married in July. My baby sister ( I suppose I can’t call her that anymore since she’s turning 18 next year) had hip surgery and her nose was thoroughly between the covers of books. My aunt also joined us which made it all the more special. Tchaikovsky, our cat, reminding us at exactly five-thirty every day that he’s hungry, just proving why he is such a gorgeous fatty. I already miss all of it. It was the perfect holiday spent with family, cooking and home dreaming with my Mom, swimming and talking about life with my Dad, Holding my sister as she read, making my first dive in I suspect 5 years, eating way too much for comfort and sitting on the stoep chatting. I love this little family of mine!
